As you look for events for National Truck Driver Appreciation Week in September, check out your favorite truck stops. For example, starting in mid-August and throughout September all TAs and Petros are supporting the SCF. Also known as the St. Christopher Truckers Development and Relief Fund, the SCF goes directly to financially support truck drivers in need. If you are interested in the St. Christopher Truckers Fund or in supporting this organization, here is everything you need to prepare for the fundraising event.
The SCF fundraising event will take place as the annual Band Together campaign. You can participate at any TravelCenters of America locations, which includes all TA truck stops and Petro Stopping Centers. The truck stops will be selling window cling stickers measuring 3 by 3 inches for contributions of $1. These stickers will look great in the windows of big rigs around the nation. You can also purchase a keychain for $5 and a wristband for $1. All proceeds go to support the St. Christopher Truckers Fund.
According to Dr. Donna Kennedy, Executive Director of the St. Christopher Truckers Development and Relief Fund, “It’s hard to believe that Band Together is in its ninth year! The St. Christopher Fund has truly been blessed with the support of TA and Petro. This campaign not only supplies us with needed funding, but it also raises awareness of the organization. There have been a countless number of drivers helped directly as a result of Band Together. Once again, we thank all of TravelCenters employees and customers for their part in Saving Lives and Families, One Driver at a Time.”
In the ninth year that the TravelCenters of America has supported the SCF, the fundraising efforts continue to surpass expectations. The TA and Petro donations are the biggest donations to the St. Christopher Truckers Relief Fund every year. In fact, thanks to the support of these financial contributions, 2,300 truck drivers have been able to receive over $2.3 million in assistance.
This money goes toward the monthly utility bills of truck drivers and their families who are in need because of illness or injury. Financial hardships can happen to any trucker at any time. After all, no one schedules to get sick. It’s a wonderful thing that the SCF offers the truck driver community—especially since all of the donations come from fellow truck drivers.
Barry Richards, the president and COO of TravelCenters of America, said, “With driver health and wellness becoming a higher priority within the truck driving industry, we understand how important it is for drivers to have access to appropriate medical and financial support that will help get them safely back on the road. We are honored to continue our support with SCF this year and look forward to another successful Band Together campaign.”
